Mi Familia

This week I went to a restaurant called Mi Familia. They are located on 2007 N. Wisconsin, Peoria, IL, 61603. A friend of mine had seen the place growing up but had never gone, making it the perfect place for me to try!

When entering the restaurant you will see booths along the sides with a wide open space in the middle of the restaurant. A waitress came and brought us homemade chips with two different kinds of salsa.

I had never had salsa made with green tomatoes before. It was phenomenal. Definitely try green salsa if you ever get the chance! My friend had studied in Mexico before. While he was there he had a drink called Boing every day. So I had to try an authentic Mexican juice. I got a guava flavored one which was really sweet, but still delicious! I decided to play it safe and order tacos, but my friend was a little more adventurous and got chiles rellenos.

The food was delicious. It was refreshing to have an authentic Mexican meal!

  1. I've been trying to find a good authentic Mexican restaurant around here so I'm excited that this was your post. It sounds and looks good and I will definitely have to try this place out!

  2. count me in, too! I grew up in a city with a large hispanic population where there was always an authentic Mexican restaurant within walking distance... Peoria has been quite the disappointment in that area.

  3. Mmm Mmm Mmm! That sounds like my kind of restaurant. How was the price? I could definitely try a new Mexi spot. I agree with you two ladies- the Bradley area needs to be a little more cultured. I went to Lorena's a lot in E. Peoria this summer (not the best food). I would have a few margs. before hitting up the lazy river at Splash Down... talk about the life.

  4. Prices were resonable. I believe my tacos were about $6 and the chiles were about $8. Sadly, they do not serve alcohol so you can't get your margaritas there. However, Jalapenos has half price margaritas on Thursdays!
